I’m too tired to hash that out with you.
I moved from Twitter to Mastodon when Elon bought Twitter. I think what you saw on Mastodon was a product of what you were following (people and hashtags).
The other nice thing happening somewhat recently is that I can follow Bluesky (through a bridge) and Threads (some accounts now, more as federation between the platforms matures).
Not being able to follow the brands you want is just a symptom of them not being on these platforms yet. I follow a few news outlets, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Kagi search, Vivaldi browser, Cloudflare, Mozilla, The Internet Archive, etc.
I’m hoping more show up on these platforms with time and that BS and Threads actually do integrate more fully with Mastodon.
I’ll be more excited about that when they start allowing larger federated instances.
I haven’t read a ton about it, I have to admit, but last I read, federated instances are limited in number of accounts.
More generally, the idea that taking crypto bro money will allow them to stay as open as Mastodon sounds unlikely to me.
My Mastodon experience is far more pleasant than that of Lemmy.
My sense is Mastodon is far less left leaning (but still left of center) but it may just be a product of who I’m following and the tags I’m following.
I see BlueSky as different than Lemmy. In my mind, Twitter = BlueSky and Mastodon and Reddit = Lemmy and Kbin (if that’s even still around).
They took crypto bros VC money.
Do we really think they’ll allow mass federation without getting returns on their investment?
On principle, personally. I was done with Reddit after the API shit.
My issue with BS is it took VC money from crypto bros.
What do we think will happen when they come looking for their returns on investment?
Looking like it’s about time lmgtfy to make a comeback.
There’s a trending posts list which helps fill this want for me.
I lived in Tucson for a while. Very good food scene.
Weather is actually pretty nice this time of year.
Nothing really special to be aware of. Stay away from cholla cactus. Lol
That’s all valid.
Check out Vivaldi. Yes it’s still Chromium. Consider reading the link.
Anyone else think that was a pony tail until they sat up?
I just farted
lol
What if I flip both at once?
Since the first time I heard about FSD I’ve been wondering why Tesla (or others) doesn’t set up a system where drivers opt-in (no opt-in by default) to sending anonymized driving data to help train the model. The vast majority of the time, it’s probably modeling OK driving. At least no accidents. But the shitty driving and accidents are also useful as data about what to avoid.
Maybe they’re already doing this? But then I wonder why their FSD is getting shittier rather than improving. One would think with more driving data, good and bad examples, would only help.
iOS friends, check out the Mastodon client Ice Cubes.
It’s free (beer and speech) and it’s very good IMO.
Also, after you settle on a server, consider setting up a recurring donation to your admin to help with server costs. The way I see it, it’s that or ads and enshitification.
